“Bang, Bang” that's the sound of a gun going off and killing someone. But who is it killing and whose fault is it. The issue of gun control was a big topic in the first democratic debate. Hillary Clinton said “We have to look at the fact that we lose 90 people a day from gun violence. This has gone on too long and it's time the entire country stood up against the NRA.” Her claim is true but misleading. In 2013 this statement was very close to the actual number of deaths caused by gun violence but it has many factors. The majority of these deaths are from suicide, accidents, and unclear deaths. Homicide and legal interactions only accounted for about a third of these deaths. Her saying that because of this we need to stand up against the NRA is a little misleading to me because a lot of the deaths are not homicide which she is implying they are. I agree that we need to be more strict with guns but we need the hard fact to get people to rise up against it.
Bernie Sanders said “Where you have manufacturers and where you have gun shops knowingly giving guns to criminals or aiding and abetting that, of course we should take action,” but earlier this year he said “If somebody has a gun and it falls into the hands of a murderer and that murderer kills somebody with the gun, do you hold the gun manufacturer responsible?" he asked. "Not any more than you would hold a hammer company responsible if somebody beats somebody over the head with a hammer. That is not what a lawsuit should be about.” These conflicting statements either mean that Sanders has changed his view or is easily influenced depending on his situation. This could be a trait of a person that would make me not trust them as the president of the world as one candidate said.
Gun control is an issue that clearly needs to be solved but it doesn't seem like any candidates have a solution that is clear and likely to work. It is a complicated issue between political parties which will make any agreement between the parties nearly impossible.
