Today I was assigned to design a T Shirt from a work of art that was in the office. This painting was an abstract representation of an elephant. I took a photo of the painting then worked on in in photoshop and other various programs to format the design for the printing company. This taught me numerous skills in these programs that will later help me in future projects.
Today I had no plans with Coastless so I spent the day at Tall T. I was assigned today to take photos of more products on models for the website. This was an interesting experience and I learned a lot from it. I then was asked if I could create the new business cards for the company. I accepted this challenge and started designing with the old card for reference. I used my self taught photoshop skills to create the back of the card today along with sizing the photos of the products for the website. I left at 6 again and had missed the traffic but was stopped for the train to go by. 20 minutes later it had finally passed.
Today I woke up to 4 inches of snow! I was working with Coastless Media again today but was worried because cameras and snow don't usually mix very well. This time we were shooting a Kickstarter video for a new product called Cold Screen. This product a lotion designed to naturally warm your body when applied and should last about 4 hours. I had to drive to the University of Colorado Denver first to pick up some gear for the shoot from another member of the Coastless Crew then I had to drive to boulder. I ended up missing my exit and getting quite turned around but I had left time for myself to get lost by leaving early so I still got to the shooting location early. When I arrived Ross and I set up the RED Epic Dragon on the DJI Ronin which is a camera stabilizer. We then went to a local park in the snow to film the Kickstarter video with the creators of Cold Screen Ryan and Alex. They are two entrepreneurs from Auckland, New Zealand. We covered the camera with a backpack rain cover and started shooting in the heavy snow. It took several takes but we got the shots we needed. I then left boulder and went back to Tall T to put the finishing touches on the face masks. I finished the day at 6 again and it was barely even Rush Hour.
Today I went back in to Tall T Productions. Some of the photos that I had shot yesterday needed to be re-shot so I did that as soon as I got there and then sent them to one of the employees. Chris then posted them on the website among the other photos. I then was assigned to design two different balaclavas and trunks which are two different types of face masks for skiing and snowboarding. The face masks are made in collaboration with Phunkshun Wear. I left today at around 6 in hopes of less cars on the road and for a safer drive home.
Today there was no work to do with Coastless Media so I had a free day. I decided to set up a meeting with a business that I had emailed quite a bit about an internship but unfortunately they had only gotten back to me the day before I was leaving. I managed to set up a time with Paul who is a co-owner of Tall T Productions. They are a clothing company designed for skiers and snowboarders. I went in to their office and met with Paul and we decided that this could be my second internship and I would come in when I had nothing planned with Coastless Media. I started this internship by photographing their new skis that they made in collaboration with HG Skis. These Photos are now on their website showcasing the Skis. I ended working at around 5 o' clock which was a big mistake I figured out. Rush hour in Denver is no fun!
Today we started at 8:30 but again we had to light and dress the new set in order to shoot. We started shooting today around 10 because one of the actors we needed was running late but by the time they were ready to go we were already ready to shoot so we started shooting right as we could. Today I actually got to shoot a few scenes on the RED Epic Dragon. I was shooting close ups of the actor's eyes and mouth to show emotion. We had to be out of the space by 4 so we had a limited time to film. In the middle of the day we had to change sets and completely redo the lighting. This shot involved the throwing of a phone towards the camera. Luckily the phone did not hit the camera but on one of the test throws the phone did hit the sound guy. After this shot we were glad to leave and be done shooting this film for the week.
Today was My first day meeting my mentor Ross and another Coastless Media crew member Tucker. We were supposed to start shooting a short film called "The Justin Effect" at 7:30. Instead we did not start shooting until around 9:30 because we had to light the set which was supposed to be done the day before. When we finally got to start shooting I learned how to set up the two RED cameras we would be using today. The RED Epic Dragon and the RED Scarlet Dragon. I learned the basics of setting up the cameras and working through the complicated menus on the RED. We shot take after take until the light from the sun was so bad we could not salvage it with artificial lights or fix it in post production. We left the set at 7:30 meaning we worked for about 12 hours. I fell asleep right away and had a hard time waking up for the next days 8:30 call time.
